Have you ever woken up in the morning and been so ridiculously tired that you cried? Bible studies study – Calls ‘are’ home – no such thing as a short service day, and by short I mean it sure would be nice, once in a while to be home by 5ish – couldn’t they just once-in-a-while cancel . . .terrible to say, but innit a fantastic “problem”! It is at this point, aka: burnout alert - that one desperately begs Jehovah for a break. And that is exactly! what we got. A very kind brother invited us to his time-share in Boracay. Boracay is an island about 45 min. by plane. It is famous for its finest-white sand (claim – finest out of its 7100+ islands). Also known for a party-ish atmosphere – 3-4 miles of restaurants, live band, endless shops and beggars all along the beach to remind you that this is paradise-lost. Loudness. And unfortunately, very high immorality. So for peace and quiet you gotta head to a private beach. And we were blessed to be able to get the peace and quiet we wanted so badly. Yes, I was able to read a novel – when was the last time you could curl up at the beach and read a novel? Ahhhhh, it was too good. Warm waters – snorkeling, boating, island hopping, sunset sailing, great food, great shakes, and great gelato, and great accommodations. It was too too good. I felt like quite the spoilt brat. But as always, Jehovah’s creation is exploited. Wanna see His sunset? Pay. Wanna see His fish? Pay. Grrrrr – (my pet-peeve). Wanna breathe in the fresh ocean air? thankfully that was free. And looking at the shiny things is free too J , you know, they glow in the dark – what are they called . . .oh yeah, stars! I had forgotten what it was like to see a clear night sky, while bathing in crystal clear cool water. Just lovely. It was interesting to talk to one bread-seller on the beach. She has lived here 37 years and fondly remembers when there were just a handful of shops and sellers. “it was a paradise then, but now there is evil . . . “. Her eyes turn gloomy as she tells us about some of her close friends that in the past have come here to bond with their own families but return home divorced. We talked to her a bit about the Lord’s prayer and she was familiar with us already, even knew the very first JW’s in Boracay. So our short 5 day trip was perfectly refreshing. So now my service days seem to be getting longer and later – Saturday’s we use to get home by 6ish, then 7ish, then 8ish, last Saturday got home at 8:40pm! But it’s all good. We just finished our CO visit and next week we’ll have some guests from the India Branch who are here for some training. One of the bros will be giving a Hindi talk on Dec. 25th so we are hoping some PJ’s will come but it does not seem likely because most take their kids on holiday for the day. But hoping, hoping, hoping . . .
(p.s. Quezon City is not affected by the floods cuz we are far away from the beaches. we keep our brothers in our prayers. Thus far 3 are confirmed dead but many homeless).
