Week 5

conducting a door step study

neighborhood kid beetle spinning (Gross!) (it's alive)

This is a live beetle. In the provinces these are eaten. If you would like to try them - put about 50 live ones in a wok and cook until black. Don't worry, the heat kills them fairly quickly.  Then remove the shells and legs (eyeballs??) and enjoy a bitter flavoured chew. And! they are great for indigestion.
So this week I gave my first public talk!  15 in attendance and the theme was the last days and the end of the world. An impromtu. Well actually, we were visiting a family (the 2nd time) and they invited their neighbors from both sides (they are all related).  Also the lady from down the street was visiting along with her brother. So here we are with 3 families in a tiny room with some sitting on the stairs.  It was quite intimidating and I was not prepared for such an audience.  But Jehovah's holy spirit works wonders.  They belong to the Rathswami religion.  So it seems Satan is making "return visits" on our calls too.  hmmmmm. On Sat, we were calling on a family that has already attended a church.  They know of a PJ man/pastor(?) that has converted to born again and supposedly performs miracles.  He has a group of PJ men that meet weekly at his home to pray etc. The family we call on had already told him about us and he said he wanted to meet us. But he is only home late in the evening. Our RV decided to call him to find out his schedule.  He just so happened to be home! So the RV took us to the man's house (walking distance).  So we witnessed to this christian leader along with one of his members who happened to be visiting. They had not heard of the name Jehovah. A good witness was given. They were respectful but not searching. They've been Christians for less than 2 years.  He took the BH book and an invitation to the meeting.  Then, we went to our next study.  That home (1 hour away) had just been visited by another PJ christian that belongs to this same group.  That was why during the study the wife asked confusedly "so tell me, who is this Jehovah?  . . .compared to Jesus. . .".  So we read her a few trinity scriptures which she excitedly wrote down stating, "when he comes back I will ask him to read these in his bible".  It was cute cuz she didn't know how to write down the "page numbers" these scriptures were on.  So in one day, we met 3 families that this group has visited. Very interesting.  So I am trying to learn a bit of Tagalog just to get around. Don't you just hate it when someone finishes your very well rehearsed/prepared sentence, ugh! The locals do that to me all the time and then laugh cuz they think its cute! Now I am the one that sits on a PJ Tagalog conducted study and asks "what did he say?" , funny eh?  So we had CO visit this week.  It seems in the near future PJ will be in many other faraway congregations throughout the Philippines. PJ's are all over the PI!
